The scenic driving tour, conducted by Hugh Lloyd-Thomas, includes a brief introduction to how the island was first formed, the history of the Wampanoag Native Americans, early European settlement, the development and decline of the whaling industry, island culture and heritage and the decline and rebirth of the island as an historic and tourist destination. We then tour various scenic areas and sites of interest around the island including magnificent views of the islands topography as we head toward Sconset Village and then down to Low Beach to see the beautiful gardens and Nantucket beaches. We head back through the beautiful Sconset village houses and gardens to visit the Sankaty Lighthouse and the head back towards town. On the way back to town, we stop at and learn how the Old Mill actually works grinding corn, and then back into town down Main Street to see the historic mansions & houses that the wealthy whale oil & candle factory owners & whaling Captains built.
